 | |  | | | Latest News Good News for the Region of Murcia The President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia has declared 2007 to be "a good year, we are the top community to experience economic growth and the one to have created the most jobs". He continued to say that the healthy economic indicators for the region "translated into more and better services for all the residents of the region." The aim is for Murcia to continue to lead the way in 2008, maintaining it´s position in the tables produced by the National Institute of Statistics. Highlights of the region´s performance were discussed at the presentation, which included: - Job creation. 37,800 new positions were created in the region in 2007, and the recently signed "Job Stability Pact" for 2007 to 2010 will have an investment of 86 million euros.
- Water supply. The President acknowledged that this was a problem still to be resolved, and that if Murcia was to continue to grow, it is necessary to find a permanent solution to the water supply problem.
- The new airport at Corvera. Construction on the new airport begins this year.
- Improvements to the road network, with the opening of the Totana to Mazarrón motorway, the new link from Yecla to the A-7, and the Locra - Venta del Olivo motorway link. The new Alhama to Cartagena motorway is also due to open early in 2008.
- The Science Park for Innovation and Development planned for the region will have the land needed to build in 2008. In addition, the region has put into place plans for Science and Technology in Murcia for 2007 to 2010, with trategic development for the area.
